Ann Experiment
Kayla Meadows

Wide-set eyes under a blanket
of dirtied curls, peering out at a world
of festered rejection that only you can see.

real-life raggedy Ann.
Alone, no where to run, no road of gold
to light your way, only darkened streets.
Steeped in filth, this rusted abyss that you call home,
the wretched stones and steel of the monster
that mercilessly feasts
upon a soul as helpless as the angel in your chest.

real-life raggedy Ann.
no where to run from the blistering fear
snaking up you spine,
a suicidal strangling vine,
you're running out of time, and you know it.

Why fight the beast within,
that claws at your skin,
while you beg and cry and try
so hard to push it away?

real-life raggedy Ann.
Trapped in quick sand
with no where to hide, to escape
from this existance
bestowed upon you, the unwilling experiment-

Tossed aside without care,
like the doll that you were declared
to be under the mocking glare
of obliviously flickering street lamps.
