The Office
I couldn't work out if this was a micro-short or a prose poem. The way it's written it's a short story, but I think there's too much rhyme, and it's a bit too short. Anyway, here it is for your pleasure, let me know what you think.

T J Rintoull
T J Rintoull, born 1983, currently residing on the Gold Coast in Australia, grew up in a combination of city housing, winnebago travelling and bush shacks, before entering the worlds of music, art and literature. Told often that he should have attended university to better himself, instead he devotes his time to working dead end jobs in order to pay the bills, and his spare time to creating music and literature. He confesses that although he loves to paint he has no ability with a brush whatsoever.
Currently T J Rintoull resides with his fiance in a small flat, as he continues to attempt a measure of success with his band and his writing.

The Office
T J Rintoull

Seated wrongly on a swivel chair, staring blankly at the screen, I wait.

Hoping blindly for something other than this poor inanimate excuse for a business partner, I shuffle through pages and files, effort expended for little reward. Telephones, the screaming bell wrenching the silence through which I give pause to the lives of others, allaying fears and making judgements for those too feeble to amble through life without an advisory, a parental factor on the line directing their every move.

Still seated, still shuffling, still waiting, I hope to God that it will end soon. I glance at my desk clock, realising with a cautionary glare at the consistently stubborn teledex that hell has little more than half closed. Again, the telephone, the ear-pounding squall for which I curse Bell daily, another belligerent lost soul hurling excuses and abuses down the line while I calmly mumble platitudes in their general direction. Again I glance at my desk clock, and a smile curls at the corners of my grimace as I notice an entire half hour has passed; a block of ice found by a desert straggler.

The mind drifts, wandering elsewhere, to far away countries, to lands where success is bountiful and sleep is moreso. I while away the working day dreaming of sunny skies and starry nights, of freedom of expression and payment for expressing my lifelong dreams on string and canvas. The world drifts into oblivion, there is only me, I, the one, and those with whom I truly wish to be, rather than the chattering chimps I call work colleagues; they are better known as those who surround me on a daily basis.

The third round comes up with the desk clock; the eyes dart hopefully forward, my daydreaming a helpful reminder that much time has been wasted away where drudgery and industry could have been employed. Yet, what do I find but the minute hand has moved only some five measly minutes!

Inwardly the howl of despair resounds, I am a supervillain thwarted by the hero Time. I curse as if I were the cheesiest character on any sitcom ever, crying out against my non-existant Gods for their terrible trickery and mockery of my loathesome life. The workers are chattering, their din is caving in on my despair, the phone is ringing and the files are piling up, and still the screen is blank! I am falling, I am dying, I am about to tear my hair from the head it calls its home.

A sudden flash, a word of type, a word of text.

Here comes a message from outside this little world, nothing more than a simple hello; and herewith I see, that as this one for whom I long begins to speak to me, at last I know that in only a matter of hours I shall at last be free.
